Nigeria is seeking the support of the United States in addressing the country’s pressing security challenges, including banditry and terrorism.
Bello Matawalle, minister of state for defence, said Nigeria would welcome international support to rid the country of terrorists.
Matawalle, currently on a working visit to the US, said President Bola Tinubu is determined to collaborate with friendly nations to make Nigeria more secure for all.
In the US, the Minister met with members of the US Congress in the Capitol on December 13, including Congresswoman Betty McCollum who heads the US House Committee on Appropriation for Defence.
Minister Matawalle said Nigeria’s collaboration with the US, given the years-long bilateral relationship between the two countries, would go a long way to make the country terrorism-free.
McCollum agreed, expressing the unwavering willingness and commitment of the US government in supporting Nigeria to combat terrorism and other security threats.
She said the US would assist Nigeria through intelligence and information sharing, training and military hardware production.
The Congresswoman said the US–Nigeria partnership underscores the shared commitment of both nations in fostering regional and global security.
