Nigerians travelling within the country this yuletide season will pay less for public transport as President Bola Tinubu will bear 50 per cent of the transportation cost, Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake told the press on Wednesday.
Alake said the bonanza would run from 21 December to 4 January 2024, and that inter-state travel via trains will be free.
According to the Minister, “Nigerians willing to travel can board public transport via minibuses and luxury buses at 50 per cent discount of current cost and all our train services on the route the trains currently serve at zero cost on their travels this holiday season.”
Alake said the Ministry of Transportation headed by Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali is working with relevant stakeholders “to seamlessly deliver on this special presidential initiative.”
“I can tell you that all the relevant stakeholders in that industry have been discussed with or been engaged and all the parameters laid out,” he added.
