NewsNigeriaPoliticsGov. Mbah Assents To 2024 Budget, Promises Monumental Capital Development

The Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah says the 2024 budget will engender disruptive economic growth, radical infrastructural development, and efficient service delivery.

Mbah stated this on Wednesday when he assented to the 2024 Enugu State Appropriation Law at the EXCO Chambers of the Lion Building, Government House Enugu.

“What this budget signing means to the people of Enugu is that we are going to be spending over N400bn on capital projects in the next year. This is the first time in the history of the state that we are spending that size of funds on capital projects because we are spending 20 times more than what has been typically our Capital Expenditure outlay in Enugu State,” the Governor elucidates.

“Hence, we called the 2024 budget, the Budget of Disruptive Economic Growth based on the size of our Capital Expenditure. It is going to be monumental in the ways our people are lifted out of poverty and in the ways economic activities will blossom.”

“Most important is that it will ensure that we address most of the gaps we have in our social services.”

Tasking the Commissioners to meet the outlined targets, the Governor said their revenue mobilization performance will be monitored as the government will rely heavily on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) instead of borrowing to fund the budget.

The Governor then commended the lawmakers for keeping to their words to give the budget an expeditious review and passage within two weeks of its presentation to the House of Assembly.

“The expeditious passage of the budget was a product of executive-legislature collaboration during the making of the budget estimates,” Mbah reiterates.

Recall that the bill for a law to make provision for the sum of ₦ 521,561,386,000.00 to the services of the government of Enugu state of Nigeria for the year ending 31st day of December 2024 and for other related purposes HB 5, 2023 scaled through first, second, third reading and was passed by the Enugu State House of Assembly on Thursday 21st of December 2023.

Present at the signing ceremony is the Enugu State Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia; Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ezenta Ezeani; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barrister Victor Udeh; Enugu State Head of Service, Kenneth Ugwu; Members of the State Executive Council (SEC).
