A raging fire on Wednesday evening had claimed properties worth millions of naira belonging to the Household of David Church, on Adeniyi Jones Street, Ikeja Lagos.
An eyewitness, a church worker told newsmen said the church was expecting thousands of people in the church on the evening of Wednesday for its 5-day annual crusade before the fires started at about 11 am.
“We have been making arrangements, even went as far as decorating the place and training some of our members on how to confront emergencies, such as fire outbreaks. Guess who trained our people? Fire service!” the witness said.
Reacting to the sudden incident, the Pastor of the Church, Olusola Osunmakinde, encouraged his congregation to trust God and said regardless of the incident, the program set for Wednesday, January 31, will still be held at the same venue.
“Some people saw the whole thing from the beginning and by the grace of God, We’ll have a greater recovery,” he stated.
Pastor Osunmakinde said Agents officials of NEMA, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Lagos Emergency Management Agency, State Fire Service, and the Police were at the scene to assist.
Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, South West Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said the fire which started at about 11 am, at the rear end of the church was not noticed by the church workers, but passersby who drew the attention of the indoor workers to the incident.
He said no one sustained injury and no casualty was recorded.
