NewsNigeriaPoliticsAnambra: INEC commences distribution of sensitive materials ahead of Saturday, election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra State has commenced the distribution of sensitive materials to Nnewi North and Orumba North Local Government Areas (LGAs) ahead of Saturday, February 3, 2024 rerun election in the state.

According to reports, the distribution exercise took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Awka, on Friday and was supervised by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu.

While addressing journalists, Dr. Agwu said that the sensitive materials like result sheets of all types and ballot papers were received and distributed for onward movement to the two council areas while the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines and other items have been handed over to the electoral officers.

She said that INEC has completed 50 percent of their work and is ready for the election on Saturday, and called on the adhoc staff to be proactive to ensure a smooth process.

Agwu also noted that there will be no movement in areas where the election will hold from half past eight 0’clock in the morning when voting would start and half past two in the afternoon when voting would have ended, and assured that every person in the queue will vote before they close.

She warned politicians not to act funny in any way as they have deployed enough security personnel to provide safety at all the polling units and areas where the election would hold, urging the electorate to come out without fear of molestation.

On their parts, the chairman of Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Anambra State Mr. Moses Obi and the agent for People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Mr. Osondu Mmadu commended INEC for its conduct so far.
