The Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill for a Law to establish the Enugu State Geographic Information System Service and for connected purposes (HB.2), 2024.
Iloabuchi Aniagu, Minority leader and member representing Nkanu West constituency in his presentation said the bill seeks to computerize information on lands in the state, put an end to anomalies in the Ministry of lands and the negative narratives of sale and resale of lands without consensus; cases of multiple Certificate of Occupancies issued over a land, countless litigations on land matters and the likes which scares off investors.
With the introduction of Geographic Information System, GIS, in the Ministry intending investors can make a search and payment from anywhere; it brings transparency, accountability and ease of doing business.
The House accepted the report of the Joint Committee on Lands and Urban Development, Environment, Education; Judiciary, Public Petition, Ethics and Privileges, considered and approved same after a few corrections;
In his presentation, the Chairman of the Joint Committee, Ezugwu Pius said the bill is a welcome development;
“This Bill is not only appreciated by the Committee on its importance, the public and stakeholders that attended the public hearing overwhelmingly expressed their gratitude to the Executive for coming up with a bill that will boost the economy of the State and create employment,” Ezugwu said.
The bill was then read for the third time and passed; it will be cited as a Law to provide for the Enugu Geographic Information System Services and for Connected Purposes.
Meanwhile two other bills presented by the Minority Leader, Iloabuchi Aniagu also scaled through first reading:
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (Amendment) Bill, (HB.3), 2024 and The State University of Medical and Applied Sciences Teaching Hospital Igbo-Eno Bill (HB.4), 2024.
