NewsNigeriaPoliticsUbani Lauds Tinubu For Opening Land, Air Borders With Niger Republic

The former chairman Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL), Barr. Monday Ubani has lauded President Bola Tinubu over the opening of the land and air borders with Niger Republic.

Ubani stated that the action of the President will improve economic activities within the West African sub region.

Recall that President Tinubu directed the opening of Nigeria’s land and air borders with the Republic of Niger on Wednesday.

Reports have it that he also ordered the lifting of other sanctions against the country with immediate effect.

According to a press release by Tinubu’s media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, the directive is in compliance with the decisions of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at its extraordinary summit on February 24, 2024, in Abuja.

Also recall that ECOWAS leaders had agreed to lift economic sanctions against the Republic of Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

The former second vice president of NBA said, “Free movement within the West African borders is very helpful for the economy of the ECOWAS countries that is why when you look at the ECOWAS protocols it allows free movement of goods and services.

“Any restriction will impede movement, and restrict goods from coming in and going out. Now, people who have business relationships who are doing business across the borders will go back to their businesses and economic activities will once again return. It is really commendable. Let all the borders be opened but the police should not allow illegal immigrants but for business transactions, it is very encouraging news for those who do business around the borders within the West African sub region. I really commend the president for doing that,” Ubani added.
