The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has formally presented the official National Anthem to Nigerians.

Speaking at the press conference organized by the Agency at the headquarters Abuja, the DG stated the importance of publicizing the correct version, rendition, and lyrics of the new National Anthem to Nigerians worldwide.

“It is important to know the approved version of the National Anthem as it serves as the identity of our beloved country; the lyrics represent our reality as a nation, and we must live up to the true meaning of the words,” Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu said.

Commending the widespread acceptance by teachers and school children, the DG NOA assures Nigerians of the Agency’s widespread capacity to bring the correct version to the grass root as incorrect lyrics of the anthem constitutes an abuse of the national symbol.

“NOA staffs are prepared to work with a wide spectrum of stakeholders to cover all local governments in Nigeria, introducing the anthem and educating Nigerians on the correct practices regarding the new anthem and encouraging behavioral change for the betterment of Nigeria.”

The Nigerian National Anthem:

  • Stanza 1

Nigeria, we hail thee

Our own dear native land

Though tribes and tongues may differ

In brotherhood, we stand

Nigerians all, are proud to serve

Our sovereign Motherland.

  • Stanza 2

Our flag shall be a symbol

That truth and justice reign

In peace or battle, honour’d,

And this we count as gain,

To hand on to our children

A banner without stain.

  • Stanza 3

O God of all creation

Grant this our one request.

Help us to build a nation

Where no man is oppressed

And so with peace and plenty

Nigeria may be blessed.
