NewsFinancial Gratification: Assistant Superintendent of Immigration Suspended

For allegedly soliciting financial gratification from a traveler, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended Okpravero Ufuoma,  an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI II).

Recall that the officer’s conduct was captured in a video circulating on social media, which NIS said it doesn’t reflect the ethics and values of professionalism upheld by the Service.

In a statement issued by Kenneth Udo, the Public Relations Officer of the Service quoted the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap as condemning the alleged misconduct in the strongest terms.

She noted that the act of the officer undermined the ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing service standards.

Nandap stressed that the officer’s act is disgraceful and not a representation of the commitment of the service to hospitality, reception and courtesy.

“The NIS reiterated its commitment to identifying and removing corrupt elements within its ranks, in line with our Zero-Tolerance for Corruption policy.

“We assure the public that the NIS will continue to strive for excellence,” she said.

The NIS Boss assured the public that the officer has been indefinitely suspended pending the outcome of disciplinary procedures, in accordance with the law and Public Service Rules.
