The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has charged the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development for the state, Barrister Chimobi P. Okorie to improve efficiency in property registration and sustainability of the Land-Based Investment Process in the state.
Expressing confidence in the Commissioner’s capabilities to judiciously carry out the reform given his background in the ICT sector, Governor Mbah before administering the oath of office on the Commissioner on Friday reiterated that the process for issuance of Certificate of Occupancy must not exceed 3 days.
“With his background in the ICT sector, the new Commissioner is expected to spearhead our ongoing radical reforms in land administration. Our goals are obvious;”
“We are automating our land title processes to facilitate the issuance of Certificate of Occupancy in not more than 72 hours,” the Enugu state Governor said.
“With the enactment of the Enugu State Geographic Information Services (EN-GIS) law, we now have legislation for the digitalization of the land registry to prevent land grabbing, ensuring transparency in all aspects of engagement with government and enabling self-service by the public with minimal or no physical engagement with public servants.”
“The processes for obtaining building approvals are also being overhauled to save time and improve efficiency. We are de-risking business investment in key sectors by providing access to land, support infrastructure, and managing engagement with host communities; we are focused on growing our economy exponentially, creating wealth, and addressing crime and insecurity.”
In his response after taking the oath of office, Barrister Okorie expressed joy that he has been found worthy to serve the state.
He also pledged to work assiduously in achieving the goals set out by the state government for the Ministry.
Commissioner Okorie hails from Nkerefi in Nkanu East Local Government Area, Enugu state.
