Nigeria Youth For Atiku (NYFA), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar support group, has asked Bola Tinubu to resign as president.
The group which cited gross incompetence amidst unprecedented hardship in the country, as reason, spoke through Mr Dare Dada, its Director of Publicity in a statement on Friday in Lagos.
Dada highlighted the soaring food inflation, fuel scarcity, electricity tariff hikes, proposed international passport price increments, unemployment, healthcare and education crises, economic stagnation, and rising insecurity as evidence of the President’s ineptitude.
The NYFA spokesman condemned President Tinubu’s failure to address pressing issues, leaving millions of Nigerians to suffer.
The statement read, “The NYFA’s call for resignation comes amid widespread criticism of President Tinubu’s handling of recent national crises.
“President Tinubu’s handling of the #EndBadGovernance protests was particularly disappointing, as people expected a speech of hope but were met with his unconcerned disposition.
“Nigerians have been treated like pawns in a chess game, manipulated at will. His emergence has brought embarrassment to the nation, with the recent seizure of national assets across the world under his watch.
“Meanwhile, he has been busy junketing across the world with nothing to show for it.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) government has brought nothing but suffering to Nigerians, with no citizen able to afford even a square meal,” Dada said.
He maintained that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has experienced declining economic growth, increased poverty, lack of investment in critical sectors, and rising insecurity.
The group went further to endorse Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to contest in the 2027 presidential election, stressing that he’s a seasoned leader with a proven track record and clear vision for Nigeria’s future.
Dada noted that Atiku’s wealth of experience is required at this critical time to save our collective sinking ship.
“We would continue mobilising Nigerians to demand accountability from their elected officials. With Atiku at the helm, Nigeria can expect a new era of leadership that prioritizes citizens’ needs.
The NYFA demanded President Tinubu’s resignation, confident that Atiku Abubakar has the vision, experience, and leadership qualities necessary to transform Nigeria and restore hope to its citizens.
Dada noted that Atiku had outlined a comprehensive plan to address these challenges through economic diversification, job creation, investment in agriculture and food security, improved electricity generation and distribution, enhanced healthcare and education infrastructure, and strengthened national security.
“Together, we can build a Nigeria that works for all, where every citizen has access to basic necessities like food, shelter, healthcare, and education,” he said.
“We stand firmly behind our principal, Atiku Abubakar, in his unwavering pursuit of transparency and accountability in our nation’s governance.
“Atiku’s recent press statement has exposed the glaring inconsistencies and injustices perpetuated by the current administration, and we cannot afford to remain silent.
“Atiku has brought to light the suspicious circumstances surrounding Oando Plc accelerated approval to purchase AGIP/ENI’s onshore assets, while other transactions like Shell/Renaissance and Mobil/Seplat continue to face delays.
“This preferential treatment raises serious questions about the government’s commitment to fairness and equal opportunities for all investors.
“Atiku has slammed the sham subsidy regime implemented by the current administration, which has led to an unsustainable economic burden on our nation.
“The recent financial statement from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) reveals a staggering N7.8 trillion owed to the national oil company by the government.
“This is unacceptable, and we demand a more transparent and accountable management of our national resources,” he said.
He said that Atiku had also condemned the rising cases of human rights abuses and enforced disappearances under the current administration.
Dada added: “The recent arrests and detentions of journalists and whistleblowers, like Bristol Tamunobiefiri, are a clear indication of the government’s intolerance for dissenting voices.
“We stand with Atiku in demanding an immediate end to these abuses and a commitment to upholding the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians.
“As NYFA, we urge all Nigerian youths to join us in supporting Atiku’s fight for a better Nigeria. Together we can demand transparency, accountability, and justice from our leaders.
“Let’s make our voices heard and work towards a brighter future for our nation. #AtikuAbubakar #Transparency #Accountability #NYFA” Dada said.
