Yiaga Africa has reacted to incidents of voting buying allegedly perpetrated by agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the ongoing governorship election in Edo State.
This was disclosed at a press briefing over the electoral body’s observation so far.
Yiaga had in a post on their official X handle, alleged observing vote buying acts carried out by the PDP and APC party agents across some polling units.
It reported incidents of vote buying in Ikpoba/Okha, Igueben, Esan West, Akoko Edo, Owan West, and Uhunmodi Local Government Areas (LGAs).
“APC and PDP party agents were seen bribing voters with cash (N10,000) at the Igueben – Idumoka Pri School polling unit (12-10-03-004) Ward 1 in Igueben LGA.
“Party agents for APC and PDP were also seen handing out cash gifts (N10,000) in Enikaro – Enikaro Primary School IX Polling Unit (12-11-07-009) in Ugbekun ward, Ikpoba/Okha LGA.” Yiaga wrote.
Meanwhile, the ongoing election has been said to be peaceful and voter turnout impressive. Analysts have hailed the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies for being professional in their conducts, so far
INEC had earlier issued a press release extending voting in some areas where the exercise started late because of late arrival of materials.
