The Ibaji Flood Plains Multipurpose Cooperative Society (IFPMPCS) of Kogi State says over 60 communities in Ibaji Local Government Area have been submerged by flood.
Chairperson of the IFPMPCS Executive Committee, Prof Joy Ede Ukoje, made the plea during a press briefing in Lokoja said Ibaji is one of the LGAs in the state which faces devastating flood annually.
Ukoje called on the Kogi State Government to take immediate action, including creating a disaster relief fund to support the affected communities and mitigate the impact of the flooding on residents.
She said the scale of flooding in Ibaji and other areas along the bank of the River Niger has surpassed the state government’s capacity to manage effectively.
