Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, of 6 Brigade, Sector 3 has thwarted a planned banditry attack in the southern part of Taraba State.
Brigade’s Acting Assistant Director, Captain Oni Olubodunde, in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday said the operation occured on December 11, 2024, also led to the arrest of two suspects.
The statement said: “Acting on actionable intelligence about an impending terrorist attack on local villages, the troops launched a series of aggressive patrols, ambushes, and covert operations.
“These efforts culminated in the arrest of two suspects, identified as Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, in Adu village,” the statement read.
According to the Army, the suspects were apprehended while attempting to infiltrate Chachanji market, allegedly to carry out kidnapping and other criminal activities.
“During the operation, security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to uncover details about their network and activities,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa reassured the people of the state that the Nigerian Army remains committed to combating terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality.
Uwa, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism, which ensured the success of the operation and lauded the cooperation of law-abiding citizens in providing timely and credible information.
The Brigade Commander emphasized that collective efforts are key to ensuring a safer and more secure nation.
