A Special Operations Brigade has been deployed to Sokoto and Kebbi States as part of moves to combat the Lakurawas terrorists group causing mayhem in some states.
The Nigerian Army Headquarters made this known in a statement posted on its official X microblogging platform on Friday said the deployment is aims to build on the successes already recorded by the military during the precursor operations under Operation Forest Sanity III.
According to the statement, the deployment was ordered by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
The General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose on Friday addressed the troops on behalf of the Theatre Commander, Major General Oluyinka Soyele.
Brigadier General Ajose tasked the troops to ensure complete neutralization of the Lakurawas sect, emphasized adherence to rules of engagement and the importance of protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.
Recall that the military had in previous operations, targeted forests and enclaves in areas such as Rumji Dutse, Tsauna and Bauni, East of Sarma, Malgatawa, Gargao, Magara Forest and Tsauna, Kaideji, Nakuru, Sama, Sanyinna, Kadidda, Kolo, and Dancha Villages in Tangaza, Illela and Binji Local Government Areas.
According to the Army Headquarters, the operations resulted in the destruction of 22 camps, neutralization of several terrorists, and the recovery of four rifles, 409 rounds of PKT 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 94 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
