Katsina State Police Command has recovered 109 rustled animals and killed seven suspected bandits following a foiled attack on Ruwan Doruwa village in Dutsinma local government area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu in a press statement said the incident occurred on January 18th, 2025, at about 9:00 am when the Dutsinma Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call reporting a bandits’ attack.
He said the bandits armed with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons launched an assault on the village, causing panic among residents.
According to the statement in a swift response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilized to the scene in collaboration with the military, Department of State Services (DSS), Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KTSCWC), and local vigilantes.
The statement said: “the security team engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, neutralizing seven suspects. The remaining bandits fled with injuries, abandoning the rustled animals.
“61 cows, 44 sheep, two donkeys, one goat, and one dog were recovered during the operation”.
Meanwhile, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, has commended the operatives for their bravery, professionalism, and commitment.
CP Musa assured the public of the command’s unwavering resolve to safeguard lives and property across the state and called on residents to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and actionable intelligence.
“Your cooperation is vital in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality,” he added.
