Nigeria has dropped three places in the 2025 World Happiness Report, ranking 105th out of 147 countries.
The annual report, released on Thursday to mark the International Day of Happiness, assesses global happiness based on factors such as GDP per capita, social support, life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.
Despite its decline from 102nd place in 2024, Nigeria remains the 10th happiest country in Africa.
Libya emerged as the highest-ranked African nation at 79th, surpassing others in life satisfaction and societal well-being despite ongoing challenges.
Globally, Finland remained the world’s happiest country for the eighth consecutive year, followed by Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden. Meanwhile, the United States fell further, ranking 24th, down from its peak position of 11th in 2012.
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network publishes the World Happiness Report in collaboration with Gallup and the Oxford Centre for Well-Being Research.
