NewsNigeriaState Services Dept in Niger Partners with FIDA to Address Gender-Based Violence

The Department of State Services in Niger State has expressed concern over the increasing involvement of underage girls and women in social vices in the state.

The DSS Director in the state, Alhaji Usman Bello Hussain expressed the concern during a courtesy visit by the Niger State chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).

Hussain, while assuring FIDA members of the DSS’s commitment to protecting the rights of girls and women against any form of molestation, emphasized the need for partnership to tackle the trend.

He stressed the importance of collaboration in addressing gender-based violence and ensuring a safe environment for women and children in the society.

“The partnership aims to support the domestication of the Violence Against Persons (VAP) law in Niger State, which would replace the outdated penal code,” he said.

Earlier, the State Chairperson of FIDA, Mrs. Bolanle Jibogun, emphasized the need for the new law to effectively address and punish offenders of gender-based violence.
