President Bola Tinubu has appointed new members to the governing councils of three prominent federal universities: the University of Abuja (also known as Yakubu Gowon University), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU).
This development follows the President’s earlier decision in February to dissolve the governing council of the University of Abuja and remove its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aisha Maikudi, amid controversies surrounding her appointment.
According to a statement by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the newly appointed council members are as follows:
University of Abuja (Yakubu Gowon University):
- Prof. Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan (South South)
- Dr Adedeji Adefuye (South West)
- Prof. Sarki Abba Abdulkadir (North West)
- Prof. Aminu Mohammed Dukku (North East)
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN):
- Rt. Hon. Barr. Ogbonna Eugene Odo (South East)
- Muhammad Inuwa Tahir (North West)
Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka:
- Dr Nkem Okeke (South East)
- Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala (South East)
