Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have rescued a pregnant woman from her abductors and arrested two suspects, said to be human traffickers.
The suspects, identified as Sunshine Hart, 28, and Kingsley Ekocha, 38, were apprehended on June 24, 2025, in Aba, Abia State, following diligent investigation and intelligence gathering.
The rescued woman, Regina Sunday, 24, was found to be pregnant and was promptly taken into protective custody.
A press statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, noted that in a remarkable turn of events, she went into labour on June 30, 2025, and was safely delivered of a baby boy at the Police Clinic in Port Harcourt.
She said that both mother and child are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.
Iringe-Koko said: “The police command is committed to dismantling the human trafficking network and ensuring that those responsible face the full weight of the law.
“The investigation is ongoing, with a focus on tracking down other members of the syndicate.”
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting the public and upholding the rule of law.
Adepoju charged members of the public to report all suspicious human trafficking activities and provide intelligence to aid investigations.
