The media office of Mr Peter Obi has publicly dismissed as “false and misleading” two statements currently circulating on social media, both falsely attributed to the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Ibrahim Umar, spokesperson for Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), it was clarified that one purported message falsely claimed that Mr Obi had ruled out returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and reaffirmed his allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). A second falsehood asserted that he had been offered the position of National Organising Secretary (NOS) within the ADC.
“We want to make it absolutely clear: Peter Obi did not issue, authorise, or endorse any of those statements,” said Ibrahim Umar, emphasising that neither statement originated from Obi or his media team.
Mr Obi, who remains at the centre of persistent political speculation, continues to remain focused on promoting his New Nigeria vision — one he asserts transcends partisan manoeuvring and gossip.
“Mr Obi speaks for himself and does not need anyone to put words in his mouth. Attempts to exploit his name for political mischief will not be tolerated,” POMR stated.
The media office urged the public, media professionals and political stakeholders to verify communications before sharing or acting upon them, and to rely solely on Mr Obi’s authenticated social media handles or official press releases.
“Let it be known: any statement not from his official sources should be treated as false and mischievous,” the statement concluded.
