The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results.
NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the results in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday.
He said 818,492 of the 1,358,339 candidates who sat for the exams met the requirement of five credits and above, including English and Mathematics.
In total, 1,144,496 candidates, representing 84.26 per cent, scored five credits and above in all subjects regardless of whether Mathematics and English were included.
Professor Wushishi explained that 1,367,210 candidates (685,514 males and 681,696 females) registered for the examination.
Out of this number, 1,358,339 actually sat for the exams, which were held between 16 June and 25 July 2025. The results were released 54 days later.
He also noted that 1,622 special needs candidates took part, including 941 with hearing difficulties and 191 with visual impairments.
On examination malpractice, 3,878 candidates were caught in different forms of cheating. Professor Wushishi said this represents a 61.58 per cent drop compared to last year.
He added that 38 schools in 13 states were involved in mass cheating and would face sanctions. Nine supervisors in Rivers, Niger, Abuja, Kano, and Osun States have also been recommended for blacklisting for poor supervision and other serious misconduct.
Professor Wushishi further disclosed that in Adamawa State, exams in eight schools were disrupted by a communal clash, affecting 29 papers in 13 subjects. Discussions are ongoing with the state government to enable affected students retake the exams.
In terms of performance, Kano State recorded the highest number of candidates with five credits including Maths and English (68,159), followed by Lagos (67,007) and Oyo (48,742). However, Gabon centre recorded no candidate that met the required benchmark.
