The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed not to allow the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, maintaining that it’ll be totally untenable for the party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strife that occurred within the PDP is allowed to resurface in the ruling party.
Recall that the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains recalcitrant despite President Bola Tinubu giving him a second chance to retrace his steps, prompting the commencement of fresh impeachment proceedings.
During Thursday’s plenary session, where the Assembly served an impeachment notice on the governor, Amaewhule stated that Fubara’s actions left lawmakers with no option but to initiate the impeachment process.
Reacting to the impeachment proceedings, the state chapter of the APC, in a statement on Thursday signed by its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju insisted that the move will be resisted.
The statement reads, “The Rivers State APC has vehemently rejected the move by the State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
“Our position as of today on this matter is that we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy.
“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strife that occurred within the PDP is allowed to resurface in our great party,” Darlington said.
He added that the ruling party “will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilised”.
