…Demands Govt’s Actionable Plan To Address Root Causes Of Insecurity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that all forms of senseless killings must end, and demands an actionable plan by the government to address root causes of insecurity.

A statement on Friday, signed by the Plateau State Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Choji Felix Dalyop, noted that the perpetrators must be swiftly brought to justice to ensure accountability and deter future violence.

The statement reads, “We’ve noted with great concern and strongly condemn the tragic killing of seven innocent citizens in their prime, in a mining site in Wat of Kuru District, Jos South LGA, Plateau state, this day, Wednesday, 21st January, 2026, by the enemies of the state.

“The citizens are holding the government accountable for the egregious failure to protect human life and ensure basic security among others. The senseless loss of life as contained herein is a gloomy testament to the ongoing security crisis and the government’s lack of proactiveness and apparent indifference to the issues of safety and welfare of the very people it was elected to serve.

“Every life lost under the watch of this government erodes the public’s confidence and puts our democracy under siege. It’s therefore a dangerous course of action that not only endangers our hard-won democracy over time but also deepens mistrust and elevates thematic and systematic security threats in Plateau State, the home of peace and tourism.

“The party asserts that the government’s primary responsibility is to provide security and uphold the rule of law. The repeated incidents of unprovoked violence and the failure to bring perpetrators to justice demonstrate a severe dereliction of duty as contained in Section 14(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.”

The party also demanded a transparent and impartial investigation into the killings, with findings made public without delay.

“The perpetrators must be swiftly brought to justice to ensure accountability and serve as a deterrent against future violence. The government must develop and communicate a clear, actionable plan to address the root causes of insecurity and prevent further loss of innocent lives.”

The party added, “It should be noted that the art of rhetoric and empty condemnations alone will not suffice herein, for the people demand action, justice, and a government that prioritises human life over and above political power.

“The PDP stands in solidarity with the families of the victims and the affected communities, and urges both the national and international communities to continue to monitor the systematic resurgence of insecurity and human rights situation in Plateau State, for a speedy decisive action.”

The PDP recalled that in 2025, a report of the fact-finding committee on the incessant killings in Plateau State, constituted by Governor Caleb M. Mutfwang indicated that attackers often come from neighbouring states.

According to the party, the report stressed that 420 communities were attacked, thousands of people, mainly consisting of women, children, and elderly displaced, and nearly 12,000 lives were lost.

“Plateau State, cannot afford to treat such atrocities as business as usual, pointing out that the violence in the state is well coordinated, the motives deliberate, and the sequences devastating.”
