NewsNigeriaPoliticsAkpabio Says Tinubu’s Government is Nigeria’s Most Christian-Friendly

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as the most Christian-friendly government in Nigeria since the country’s creation.

Akpabio made the statement on Tuesday at the Jos Polo Ground, where a large crowd of political supporters gathered to witness the formal reception of Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a goodwill message released through his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President said the Tinubu administration had shown “actions and deeds” to prove its commitment to fairness in religious governance.

“Let me place on record that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration is the most Christian-friendly administration since the creation of Nigeria. He has shown this through his actions and deeds. He treats both Christians and Muslims equally,” Akpabio said.

Governor Mutfwang’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC is a significant political shift in the North-Central geopolitical zone, one that party leaders say strengthens the ruling party’s influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio congratulated the Governor for positioning Plateau State “at the centre of national politics”, and assured residents that the federal legislature and government would support the state’s development and security.

“Mr Governor, I congratulate you on this action of taking the people of Plateau to the centre of national politics. Let me assure you that insecurity will soon come to an end in Plateau,” he said.

He stressed the federal government’s determination to protect all Nigerians regardless of religious belief.

“Government will do everything within its powers to protect Nigerians no matter their religious inclination and belief. We will support President Tinubu through the approval of funds in order to shut down all IDP camps in the country,” Akpabio added.

In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang thanked those who facilitated his entry into the APC, with special recognition for Senator Akpabio’s role.

“Today’s movement is a landmark. It is a statement that the people of the Plateau, who are here in their thousands, publicly declare their support for the APC and to return President Tinubu to office in 2027. We are beginning a journey that our forefathers had long expected — unity for peace and development,” Mutfwang said.

The reception saw attendance from top APC leaders, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who welcomed Mutfwang and described his decision as a further strengthening of the party’s commitment to unity and progress.
