In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State, the Government of the state has declared Monday, February 2, and Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as public holidays to enable residents to fully participate in activities.
Ondo State was created on February 3, 1976, and the 50th anniversary celebrations are expected to feature cultural, social and developmental activities showcasing the heritage and progress of the State.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, in a statement described the occasion as a historic milestone that offers an opportunity for reflection on the state’s journey and achievements since its creation.
The statement reads in part: “The approval was granted by the governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as part of preparations to commemorate the golden jubilee of the state, a landmark celebration that signifies five decades of growth, resilience and collective progress.
“The public holidays are aimed at allowing citizens adequate time to take part in the series of events lined up for the anniversary celebrations”.
Aiyedatiwa urged the people of Ondo State to use the holiday period to actively engage in the celebrations, reflect on the past accomplishments of the state, and renew their commitment to the shared vision of building a more prosperous, peaceful and united Ondo State.
