Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has defected from the PDP to the APC, after serving 7 years as governor under the party’s banner.
The Governor, who announced his defection in a statewide broadcast delivered from Yola on Friday, February 27, 2026, described the move as a strategic decision taken in the best interest of Adamawa State and its people.
The governor said the decision followed wide consultations and careful consideration of the state’s long-term stability, development, and prosperity.
Governor Fintiri stressed that the decision to leave the PDP was not driven by personal ambition or political convenience, but by the overriding need to reposition the state within mainstream national politics to secure greater opportunities and benefits.
He disclosed that the defection includes the entire political structure of his administration across the state’s 226 wards and 21 local government areas, encompassing elected and appointed officials.
He called on supporters to register in large numbers with the APC. The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to deliver on its developmental agenda, irrespective of political platform.
The Governor pledged sustained investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth and women empowerment, job creation, and scholarships for indigent students.
