Some parts of Lagos State are experiencing a power outage following a fire along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, triggered by an accident involving a moving vehicle and a stationary gas tanker.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC, confirmed the power outage in a statement, listing affected areas communities to include Medallion feeder, such as Medallion Company, as well as Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, and Onisan, all linked to the Ibeju 33kv feeder.
“Please be informed that the current outage resulted from a fire incident that occurred last night after a vehicle collided with a stationary gas tanker.
The statement said: “The fire caused significant damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including essential conductors and overhead line equipment. Our technical teams are currently working to replace the affected components and restore supply as quickly and safely as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience”.
According to EKEDC, the blaze severely impacted the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, destroying key conductors and overhead line components, thereby cutting off power supply to multiple communities.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain cautious as repair efforts continue, with the distribution company assuring that power will be restored once it is safe to do so.
