More than 3.4 million new voters were recorded in the ongoing second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the country.
In a released on Wednesday in Abuja, the commission disclosed that a total of 3,441,121 registrations had been completed as of April 3, covering both online pre-registrations and physical walk-ins across the country.
The commission added that 2,068,384 citizens completed their registration through the online portal, while 1,372,737 others registered physically at designated centres nationwide.
According to the breakdown of the figures, Jigawa State recorded the highest number of registrants with 201,047, representing 5.84 per cent of the total, followed by Lagos State with 181,095 registrations, while Kano State ranked third with 177,681.
The electoral umpire noted that youth participation remained dominant, with citizens aged between 18 and 34 accounting for 2,354,768 registrants, representing 68.43 per cent of the total.
The gender distribution indicated a higher turnout among women, who accounted for 1,922,143 registrations, representing 55.86 per cent, compared to 1,518,978 males, representing 44.14 per cent.
On occupational distribution, students emerged as the largest group of new voters, with 1,235,931 registrations, representing 35.92 per cent.
This was followed by individuals engaged in business with 701,912 (20.40 percent) and those in farming and fishing with 615,967 (18.28 percent).
The commission also reported that 48,330 persons with disabilities were captured during the exercise.
INEC, however, noted that the figures remain provisional, describing them as preliminary pending data clean-up during the claims and objections period and the deployment of the Automated Biometric Identification System.
The commission urged eligible Nigerians who have yet to register to visit its official registration platforms and complete the process before the deadline.
