NewsNigeriaPoliticsADC Secures Rainbow Event Centre for National Convention in Abuja

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has concluded arrangements to hold its national convention on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, at the National Rainbow Event Centre in Garki, Abuja, amid reported challenges in securing venues.

Party sources say the decision became necessary after the ADC was allegedly denied access to two earlier-arranged facilities in Abuja without clear explanation.

It was gathered that the Abuja Transport Hilton Hotels, initially approached by the party, declined the request, forcing a last-minute search for an alternative venue.

Also, the party wrote a letter to the Office of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, for a permit to use the Eagles Square. The letter was acknowledged but no response.

The ADC team also paid several visits to officials from the Ministry of Sports at the MKO Stadium. At the end, ADC was refused the use of the Valedrom.

Pilot News gathered that privately owned event centres in Abuja are turning down the ADC requests for fear of harassment in various forms from the government.

“Proposed venue for the ADC National Convention: Rainbow Event Center Plot 1193A, Off Southern Parkway, Garki Area 8, Abuja. Landmarks: Located behind the FCDA/AGIS Building and in close proximity to the NTA Headquarters, Area 11,” the ADC announced in an X post on Monday afternoon.

The development comes as the ADC continues to face leadership and legal uncertainty following disputes involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC has suspended recognition of the party’s current leadership, citing a Court of Appeal decision which ordered that the status quo be maintained.

The party has since approached the Supreme Court for clarification.

Preparations at the Rainbow Centre were said to be ongoing as of Monday evening, with the party expected to fully take over the facility ahead of the convention scheduled for Tuesday morning.
