On March 9, 2026, the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola, Northeast Nigeria, successfully separated another pair of conjoined twins, making it the sixth time since the establishment of the federal government health facility.
The separated twins, Hassan and Hussain, are from the family of Shuaibu Jibrin of Yelwa village in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The mother of the separated conjoined twins died a day after the surgical operation, however, the twins are in sound health condition and fit for discharge after spending months in the hospital.
The management of the Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital, Yola, footed the bill for the surgical operation, which ran into millions of naira, and the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), MAUTH Chapter, provided the family with food and fellowship.
At the World Press Conference organized for the discharge of the conjoined twins, the Chief Medical Director of the Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital Yola, Professor Adamu Bakari Girei in his welcome address said the hospital has the capacity to handle all cases.
He attributed the hospital’s success to the environment provided by the government and supported by the people, and reiterated the hospital’s commitment to the mission and vision of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Professor Girei also thanked parents of the conjoined twins for having confidence in the hospital.
The Chairman of the occasion, former Chief Medical Director of the hospital and now the paramount ruler of Madagali Chiefdom, Ptil Madagali Doctor Ali Danburam, attributed the successful separation of the conjoined twins to dedication, commitment, and teamwork as well as support from the leadership of the hospital.
The lead surgeon, Professor Auwal Muhammad Abubakar, opined that medical tourism can be halted if the government provides the needed infrastructure and equips hospitals, stressing that Nigeria has qualified personnel to handle all cases.
