The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state following the adoption of an ad hoc committee’s screening report.
The confirmation was made during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore, after lawmakers considered and adopted the committee’s recommendations.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, said the nomination followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
He explained that the exercise was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empowers the State House of Assembly to approve a nominee in the event of a vacancy.
According to him, the nominee underwent a detailed screening process, which included an extensive question-and-answer session covering his educational background, professional experience, understanding of governance, and vision for the state. His credentials were also thoroughly verified.
The committee further noted that Garo demonstrated a clear understanding of the office’s responsibilities and presented what it described as a workable vision to support the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in delivering on its mandate.

Following the adoption, Speaker Falgore put the matter to a voice vote, where members unanimously approved the nomination, thereby formally confirming Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor of Kano State.
