A former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State for the 2027 election.
The development was announced on Sunday by Mohammed Doka, Malami’s special assistant on media, in a statement shared via the former minister’s X account.
According to the statement, Malami expressed appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him ahead of the poll.
Doka added that other candidates also emerged for the National Assembly seats in the state.
Aminu Bande, a retired military officer, was affirmed as the senatorial candidate for Kebbi Central, while Ibrahim Mera, a retired deputy comptroller-general, clinched the ticket for Kebbi North. Garba Danjuma was named candidate for Kebbi South.
The statement said Malami remained committed to delivering purposeful leadership, good governance, justice, security and sustainable development.
“Together, with unity and determination, we shall build a more prosperous future for generations to come,” the statement added.
Malami had, in November 2025, declared his intention to contest the governorship, citing the need to rescue the state from “hardship and deep insecurity”, which he attributed to the current administration.
The former AGF, however, faces trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on two separate criminal charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
In January, the court ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties said to be proceeds of unlawful activities allegedly linked to Malami and two of his sons, Abdulaziz Malami and Abiru Rahman Malami.
