A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved the national working committee (NWC) led by David Mark and adopted Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The decision was taken on Sunday at the faction’s national convention and presidential primary held in Abuja, where delegates endorsed Kachikwu through a voice vote.

The group also announced a new set of national officers to replace the dissolved NWC.

The newly constituted executives include Kingsley Oggah as chairman of the board of trustees, Abdulkadir Bashir as national chairman, Johnny Derek as national secretary, Kennedy O. Odion as national treasurer, Amirigoye as national financial secretary, and Chris Ugwu as national legal adviser, among others.

Speaking after receiving the party’s flag, Kachikwu said the country was facing multiple crises, including insecurity, unemployment and economic hardship.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us and must not be controlled by a few privileged interests,” he said.

He added that the mass exodus of the middle class signals widespread frustration with the state of the nation.

Kachikwu said the ADC remained a viable alternative capable of restoring hope to Nigerians.

Earlier, Oggah described the convention as a “defining moment” for the faction, noting that it had endured internal challenges.

The new national chairman, Abdulkadir Bashir, urged members to remain committed to the party’s constitution and avoid actions that could deepen divisions.

He called on aggrieved members to return and work together to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
