The leadership of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has extended the 21-day ultimatum issued earlier to the federal government by four weeks, over its unresolved demands.
NARDS demands include: the immediate release of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund to eligible Resident Doctors nationwide within 21 days; the establishment of a transparent and sustainable salary payment system for House officers; and the clearance of outstanding salary arrears.
NARD also demanded the immediate implementation of the recommendations issued by the Ministerial committee on Assaults Against Healthcare workers, among others.
The association took the decision at an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held on the 27th June, a few hours before the initial ultimatum expired.
This is contained in a communique signed by its president, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, the Secretary General, Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim, and Publicity and Social Secretary, Dr. Abdulmajid Ibrahim.
The association said the extension would give the government more time to implement the agreed resolution and enable members to review compliance levels at its next meeting, scheduled to be held in Gombe State.
