The Zah community in Yadul District of Hong local government area of Adamawa State was again attacked on Monday, 27 July 2026, around 6:00 PM, by suspected members of Boko Haram, killing four people and abducting a woman.
Zah village is vulnerable to attacks due to its proximity to the Sambisa forest in Borno State, a den of Boko Haram terrorists.
In June 2023, the village was attacked, resulting in casualties, while a similar attack was carried out by the terrorists in December 2025.
During the latest attack, according to reports, the insurgents drove into the community on motorcycles, set some houses ablaze, and fired sporadically, killing four persons, including a Forest Guard official providing security in the community.
The attackers also abducted a middle-aged woman during the incursion, after security forces engaged them in a fierce gun battle that forced them to retreat.
The Executive Chairman of Hong LGA, Hon. Dr. Aliyu Saad Yerima Hong, who confirmed the incident in a Telephone interview with West African Pilot News, said the situation is now calm with the deployment of additional security personnel to the area.
The Council Chairman explained that the leadership of the local government and heads of security agencies in the area have visited the village, sympathized, and consoled the bereaved families.
He added that the local government had provided relief materials and support to the surviving victims and that security measures have been put in place to prevent future occurrences.
Hong, called on residents to report any suspicious movement of people to security agencies for prompt action.
“Residents should remain vigilant, cooperate closely with security agencies, and promptly report any suspicious activity in their surroundings,” he said.
The Council Chairman also called on the public to continue fervent prayers to bring an end to insecurity in the area and other parts of the country.
He commended the bravery of the security personnel stationed in the area, noting that their swift intervention prevented a much worse tragedy.
“We deeply appreciate the courage and dedication of our security forces. Had it not been for their prompt response, the casualties would have been far higher. Our administration will continue to provide them with all necessary support,” he stated.
