To ensure that youths become productive and self-reliant, the Federal Government has called for stronger collaboration with state governments to provide Nigerian youths with the funding and opportunities they need.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, made the call in Jalingo, Taraba State, at the official launch of the 500-million-naira Youth Empowerment Programme initiated by the Taraba State Government.
Olawande, noted that many young Nigerians have innovative ideas but lack the financial support required to transform them into viable businesses and sustainable sources of livelihood.
“Government alone can not meet the diverse needs of the nation’s young population, stronger partnerships with state governments would enable youth empowerment initiatives to reach more beneficiaries.
“he Federal Government, through the Nigerian Youth Academy, is providing opportunities for youths to acquire relevant skills and build the capacity needed for self-reliance,” Olawande said.
The Minister urged other governors to emulate the Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas for supporting young people.
In his remarks, Governor Kefas said state government is not only addressing the immediate needs of young people but also laying a strong foundation for future generations.
“My administration is committed to securing the future of Taraba youths by equipping them with the skills, resources, and support needed to establish themselves in life, ” the Governor said.
Kefas urged the 200 beneficiaries of the programme to use the funds responsibly and challenged them to become employers of labour.
The programme featured the unveiling of the Taraba Youth Development Roadmap 2026 to 2031, presentation of awards to the Minister of Youth Development and Governor Kefas, as well as the symbolic presentation of 500-thousand-naira cheques to the beneficiaries.
