Family announces final funeral rites for Houston businessman and community benefactor, with wake, Funeral Mass, and interment scheduled in Owerri
The family of OBILOBI ALEX A. ANOZIE of Umuedede, Umuonyeche, Owerri, in Owerri Municipal of Imo State, has announced the final funeral arrangements for their beloved son, Lawrence Mike Obinna Anozie, who passed away on September 19, 2025, at the age of 66.
Born on January 22, 1959, Lawrence will be laid to rest in Owerri on Friday, September 18, 2026, following a series of funeral rites that will bring together family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers from Nigeria, the United States, and beyond.
The funeral activities will begin on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 5 p.m., with a Chastain Wake Keep and Service of Songs at the family compound in Umuonyeche, Owerri.
On Friday, September 18, at 7 a.m., the body will leave Alaoma Mortuary for a lying-in-state at the family compound on Uche Street, Umuonyeche, Owerri. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Douglas Road, Owerri. Interment will take place immediately after the church service at the family’s Concord Area “C” plot, followed by a reception at the family compound on Uche Street, Umuonyeche, Owerri.
Lawrence’s passing was deeply felt in both the Houston and Owerri communities, where he was remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his generosity, faith, and commitment to helping others.
An accomplished accountant and businessman, Lawrence successfully incorporated and managed Universal Insurance Company, LLC; Universal Mortgage LLC; and Universal Financial Services. Through his businesses, he created economic opportunities and provided financial guidance to numerous individuals seeking to establish greater stability in their lives.
His impact extended beyond business. Lawrence was known for mentoring young Nigerians and African Americans, helping people navigate economic challenges and providing career and financial guidance to those seeking opportunities. His willingness to assist others earned him the respect and affection of many who encountered him.
A devout Catholic, Lawrence maintained a strong commitment to his faith and church community. Family and friends remember him as a compassionate, humble, and generous man whose life combined professional success with a genuine concern for the welfare of others.
His family said the funeral will provide an opportunity to celebrate a life defined by faith, family, enterprise, and service.
“Lawrence lived a life that touched many people in meaningful ways. While his passing left a profound void in our family and community, we are grateful for the memories, friendships and lives he influenced. We invite everyone who knew and loved him to join us as we celebrate his life and commit him to eternal rest.”

Lawrence Mike Obinna Anozie is survived by family members who will gather in Owerri to bid farewell to a beloved son, relative, friend, businessman, and community benefactor whose legacy of kindness, faith, and service will continue to live on.
