The Commander of Sector 5 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) in Bokkos, Plateau State, has facilitated the payment of N4.5 million in compensation to 38 farmers by the Fulani, following an earlier agreement reached on August 19, 2026.
It was reported that the Fulani communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of the State have reportedly paid the money following the destruction of farms and crops by herders and their cows in Dambwash, Danbukor, and Fokko villages of the council.
Speaking to journalists during the presentation of the money on Saturday, the Sector Commander said the settlement was concluded peacefully without any incident, noting that the development highlights the importance of community-based conflict resolution in preventing disputes between farming and herding communities from escalating into violence.
Also speaking, the Fulani Ardo of Tarangol District, Isa Shiga Dajji, who was part of the negotiations, confirmed the payment, said the move was meant to promote mutual understanding and serve as a deterrent to others who do not want peace to exist between local communities and herding communities.
“The compensation was paid in tranches, and since the latest payment was the final installment, both farmers and herders should remain calm and embrace one another.
“Following the destruction of the farms, the herding community intensified efforts to identify those responsible for the act, we quickly traced them and compelled them to pay the compensation,” Isa said.
He added that all parties involved in the dispute were present during the settlement and resolution of the conflict.
