A new case of the dreaded coronavirus has been confirmed in the State bringing the total number of persons who tested positive in Enugu to 4.
While two had been treated and discharged, the others are currently receiving treatment.
The new case is not a contact of the 3rd case but an independent case; a 39-year-old who used to live and work in Lagos, flouted the stay at home order and border closure to come into the State as was the case of the 3rd COVID-19 confirmed case.
He came into Enugu on the 22nd of April, 2020, took ill and reported to a mission hospital in the state.
Days later, suspecting his case to be COVID-19, the hospital alerted the State COVID 19 response team, and samples were taken on the 29th of April.
The result of the test came out positive on Friday, 1st May 2020.
Associate Professor, Obi Emmanuel, Enugu State Commissioner of Health advised the need to fortify the ports of entry into the State as the State has been reporting cases that are not primary contacts of confirmed cases.
Obi hence recommends the following precautionary measures to the good people of Enugu State:
- Stay at home as much as you can.
- Use a clean cloth mask daily if you have to go out
- Do not touch the front of the mask while wearing it
- Remove your mask only from both ears at the same time
- Wash your cloth mask, dry and iron it every day
- Maintain respiratory hygiene when you have to cough or sneeze
- Maintain social/physical distancing always
- Wash your hands as often as you can with soap and running water
- When you can’t wash your hands use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer frequently.
“If I do these, I protect you and if you do these, you protect me”, he said.
