Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdulrahman, has expressed willingness to partner with relevant stakeholders in order to maintain adequate security in the state.

The Commissioner of Police gave this assurance on Tuesday during a Breakfast Meeting organized by the Nigeria Policing Programme (NPP) in Enugu.

He promised to not only work with fellow police officers but also with civilians trained by NPP. Working with relevant stakeholders he said will complement the efforts of the command and ensure effective policing.

NPP has helped our job greatly by constant training of police officers on modern ways of policing; its activities have enabled the force to curb insecurity in the state, he said.

The State Police boss further attributed the resolving of many security issues to implementation of the many knowledge acquired through this programmed and promised that the Police Management will at the end of the Policing Programme sustain its lessons and gains.

On his part, the NPP National coordinator, Solomon Ufoto, said the Programme was initiated to ensure the success and peaceful conduct of the 2019 election, which he noted was achieved. Nigeria Policing Programme he said seeks to improve key Nigerian security and justice institutions.

It works to support areas of accountability, community policing, resource allocation and cohesion among policing actors on safety and security issues; it also provides communication within and between security actors and helps to improve the effectiveness of public outreach and public advocacy.

Ufoto said that Enugu state was adjudged the most peaceful state in the country before, during and after the 2019 election by the British High Commission and attributed the success to the pragmatic leadership style of the State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The NPP national coordinator equally commended the state commissioner of police for managing both human and material resources in his disposal to ensure that the security in the state in maintained.

He emphasized that although the Programme will soon wind up in the state, a better-informed police force is birthed. He further thanked the stakeholders for ensuring the realization of the programmes’ objective.

The National Coordinator of Human Right Volunteer Corps (HRVC) Larry Oguego, in his contribution, reminded the state police authority on the need for their officers to respect the rights of the public in the conduct of their duties.

Oguego assured the Commissioner of Police of their willingness to support him to lay a strong foundation that will assist his successor, to make Enugu state a model of security in the country.
