Katsina state governor, Aminu Bello Masari has announced a total lockdown in Daura Local Government Area.

Reports of this latest development revealed that the new cases were triggered by the new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the Local government. The new cases were contacted with a previously confirmed case; Dr. Aliyu Yakubu, a deceased medical practitioner.

In a series of tweets, the government noted that, of the 23 samples sent for testing, three samples returned positive. The new cases are the wife and children of the children of the diseased Doctor.

“Further to our earlier briefing on the Daura #COVID19 situation, out of the samples sent for testing, 23 results have been returned with 20 being negative while three are unfortunately positive. Incidentally, the three are the deceased Doctor’s wife and his 2 children.

“We will continue to monitor situations as they unfold and will not hesitate to lockdown any local government area that may record positive #COVID19 case. We won’t falter in putting the whole state under total lockdown should the situation warrants.

“However, three pharmacies and grocery stores will be identified for people to patronise under strict supervision and when absolutely necessary,” he tweeted.

The rapid evolution of the coronavirus has led countries into locking in millions of their citizens, closing social spaces, locking down entire regions, and shutting their doors against travelers from other countries.
