Lagos state on Sunday night recorded 70 new cases of COVID-19, making 376 cases of the total 627 cases recorded in Nigeria.
The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) made this known via its Twitter handle on Sunday night.
According to the Tweet, “Eighty-six new cases of #COVID19 have been reported; 70 in Lagos 7 in FCT 3 in Katsina 3 in Akwa Ibom 1 in Jigawa 1 in Bauchi 1 in Borno”.
It further stated that “As at 11:50 pm 19th April there are 627 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Discharged: 170 Deaths: 21”
In the last one week, the Lagos government has established sampling centers in the 20 Local Governments. While Alimosho LG has five sampling centers in the state, Ikorodu and Mushin LGs have two each and other LGs have one each.
The Government also announced its decision to embark on house to house check on residents in their houses to see any possible cases.
These two steps by the state government might have been the reason for the rise in the Lagos figure. More cases are expected to be recorded as many people defy the lockdown directives in search of their daily survival.
NCDC also added in its report that the total recoveries in the country were 170 while the total deaths were 21.
The breakdown of the total cases by states showed that Lagos has 376 cases, Abuja has 88, Kano has 36, Osun 20, Oyo 16, Edo 15, Ogun 12, Katsina 12, Kwara 9, Akwa Ibom 9, Bauchi 7, Kaduna 6, Delta 4, Ekiti 3, Ondo 3, Enugu 2, Rivers 2, Niger 2, Jigawa 2, Benue 1, Anambra 1, Borno 1.
