The Kaduna State has recorded its first casualty to the Covid-19 alongside three additional active cases.  The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Mahammed Bolani, disclosed this in a tweet.

The death case was among the three new COVID-19 cases confirmed in the state.

According to Dr. Bolani, the casualty was a retired male civil servant who recently travelled to Kano State and had an underlying health condition.

“Active cases in state rose to 28 On Thursday, 30 April 2020. The three patients that increase the case from 25 include two males and one female COVID-19 case in the state. The female patient is a health worker who is not involved in the treatment of Covid-19 cases.

“Of the two males was a retired civil servant male with underlying health conditions. Who concealed his recent travels to Kano when he visited a public hospital and a private hospital.

He was eventually admitted to the isolation centre with respiratory distress. He died before his positive test result was released.

“He is the first Covid-19 fatality in Kaduna state. His family has been informed of his demise and he has since been buried according to the burial protocol of the NCDC,” the commissioner wrote.

Contact tracing

The commission also said that the number of active case may rise as contact tracing within the state has intensified especially among the “Almajiris”.

“Kaduna traces almost 95% of contacts, has 28 active cases and await further results from Almajirai.

“Testing of 167 Almajiris who returned from Kano has now been completed, and the number of positive cases from this group may rise beyond the 21 recorded before.

Dr. Bolani urged all those suspected to have been exposed to the virus to follow the protocols and isolate themselves in order to avoid infecting others.

She also warned against concealing necessary information noting that this can expose others to the risk of infection.
