The Emir of Rano, in Kano State,  Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila Auta Bawo is dead.

The emir died on Saturday at a hospital in Kano at the age of 74.

Turakin Rano and House of Representatives Member of Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure , Alhaji Kabir Alhassan Rururm confirmed the death.

He said the late emir would be buried this evening in the emirate.

The Emir was on Friday reported to be in critical condition and was rushed to a hospital over yet to be disclosed illness.

Rano is one of the new emirates, the governor of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje recently created in the state.

There has been an increase in the cases of the dreaded Coronavirus in  Kano State in recent times.

However, it was not clear if the supposed illness of the emir was caused by the virus that has continued to rattle the world.

According to a report the late Emir was in a critical state but was referred to the Nassarawa Specialist Hospital for further medical attention.

The report quoted a traditional title holder in Rano emirate, who did not want his name mentioned, as saying that AKTH referred the emir to Nassarawa hospital due to lack of oxygen.

“The vehicle conveying the emir to Nassarawa hospital just left the premises of AKTH, the condition of the emir was critical at the time they departed AKTH.

The late emir is survived by 17 children and two wives.
