In order to cement the relationship and enhance peaceful co-existence among adherents of Islam and Christianity, a nondenominational Christian organization, Seed Sowers Ministry International, has organized a football tournament which was held at Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) Cathedral Jimeta Yola.
According to the Founder, Seed Sowers Ministry International, Dean Rev. Ozumba Nicodemus said the game is being played by both Muslim and Christian youths with a view to promoting peaceful coexistence.
“The growing animosity among Nigerians especially in the line of religion occasioned by political divide and the need to collectively arrest the situation informed his decision to organize the tournament”. Nicodemus added.
Nicodemus, who described youths as the future hope of the nation, urged them to embrace peace and shun all forms of bitterness among them.
In his remark, Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, LCCN, Yola Diocese, Rev. Amos Jika Yakubu called on Nigerian youths to eschew divisive tendencies and unite together irrespective of their ethnoreligious and socio-economic differences.
Yakubu who commended the convener of the tournament noted that youths are the bend of the nation’s development in a society, hence the need for unity of purpose among them.
“The manner in which some disgruntled elements use the youths as thugs to ferment trouble, youths should stop giving ear to the instigative whispers of such mischiefs”. Rev. Yakubu said
Also speaking, the member representing Demsa constituency in the Adamawa state House of Assembly, Mrs. Kate Raymond Mamuno charged youths against drug peddling, described the interfaith peace game as worthwhile and timely.
