Two terms Member, House of Representatives in the National Assembly representing Mubi North, Mubi South, and Maiha Federal Constituency Alhaji Abubakar Mahmud Wambai has advocated for the establishment of “Neighbor to Neighbor Watch” to checkmate security threat in the country.
The Former lawmaker made the assertion while speaking with Newsmen in Yola, the Adamawa State capital maintained that neighbor to neighbor watch will be an easy mechanism to manage security situation.
He stated that the traditional rulership starts with the ward head, stressing that each ward head knows his subjects individually by their name including children.
I advise that let’s create more wards and appoint more ward heads so that whatever happens in that ward, and if there is any visitor or stranger that ward head will keep close contact with that person and observe his attitude, behaviour, and movement. He added.
Alhaji Wambai who is also a traditional title holder of Madawaki Mubi lamented that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria did not specify the role of traditional rulers, hence the need to include them in the system of governance.
It is only during a crisis or during political campaigns; politicians will come to traditional rulers seeking their support and prayer.
Whether we like it or not in this country today, it is only the traditional ruler that the common man today in this country can listen to.
“I’m talking to you through the experiences because I m one of them, I was a District Head whenever there is a problem or security challenge you see the political leaders from the chairman, the members of the parliament will run to the traditional rulers and said these are your people talk to them. He added.
