The Federal Government, Governors of the South East geo-political zone and other stakeholders commends the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the unflinching support towards the completion of the administrative block of the FRSC Academy.

Speaking during the inauguration of the administrative block on Monday at the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Academy in Udi Local Government, Enugu State, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, represented by Jamiu Adelabu Abdukalreem, expressed deep appreciation of the Federal Government to the Enugu State Government for her uncommon support of the Corps.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will continue to support all noble aspirations of FRSC, especially as it concerns the provision of adequate funding and necessary logistics for sustainable safety campaigns to rid the nation’s highways of road traffic crashes,” SSG said.

Hence we call on State Governments, organizations and individuals to emulate Ugwuanyi’s efforts in enhancing the country’s road safety management; the general public should also collectively take responsibility of safety awareness and key into road safety programmes to achieve a safe motoring environment in Nigeria.

In his opening address, Oyeyemi Boboye, FRSC Corps Marshal expressed gratitude towards the Enugu State Government for her support towards the completion of the Academy’s administrative block.

The Corps Marshall then revealed that the Governor has agreed to provide additional land for the expansion of the Academy.

“This present administration has today fulfilled the pledge of the previous administration through relentless efforts and financial commitments. The funds released to the Corps with the counterpart funding provided by the Federal Government led to the actualization of this project,” Oyeyemi concluded.

The FRSC Academy is a centre of excellence for the acquisition of skills in road traffic administration and safety management. In 2014, the Academy was relocated from its temporary site in Jos, Plateau State to Udi, Enugu State.

The Enugu State Government then gave the Corps 35 hectares of land with a commitment to provide internal road network in the facility as well as a befitting administrative block.

In his inauguration address, the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi acknowledged the sacrifices of the three communities in Udi LGA on whose land the Academy is located.

The Governor then revealed that the completion of the administrative block was a tasking demand on the State Government’s meager resources but was driven by passion for road safety and the existing synergy with the Corps as exemplified in the professional and technical support provided by the FRSC through the academy, in the training of drivers and staff of the Enugu State Government and the State’s Traffic Management Agency respectively.

“We launched the Enugu State Traffic Management Agency to make our roads safer and more user-friendly being conscious of the link between transportation and economic growth and development,” Ugwuanyi stated.

In their goodwill messages, the South East Governors and Traditional Rulers applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi’s efforts, support and magnanimity towards the realization of the FRSC Academy project.
