Ahead of National census figures in Nigeria, the National Population Commission (NPC) will soon embark on the continuation of Enumeration Area Demarcation in 546 local government Areas in the country under phase ten and ten billion naira (N10b) will be expended on the exercise.

The Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission Adamawa state Dr Clifford Zirra disclosed this while declaring a five days training for enumerators in Mubi South local government area.

“The Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) is not census, it constitutes the foundation of census, and the exercise involves division of the whole landmass of the country into small units that can easily be covered by a team of enumerators in the forthcoming census.

“The EAD is one of the crucial steps towards the successful conduct of the next population and Housing census, it is the entire process in pre-censual actual Enumeration to post censual period, a core– preparation activities to census”. He added

Zirra explained that the exercise forms the basis for both planning, ward/ polling units’ delineation as well as other infrastructural development projects, and appealed to traditional institutions and other Stakeholders to support the Commission for a hitch free conduct of the exercise.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Adamawa state Director NPC, Alhaji Abubakar  Hamman’adama explained that NPC is mandated  to conduct a reliable, acceptable and verifiable population and Housing census, noted that Stakeholders has a great role to play for success of the exercise in Mubi South LGA.

“The EAD phase ten will be conducted simultaneously with Civil and Vital statistics Registration across the ten wards in the local government adding that fifty thousand (50,000) children are expected to be registered and issued with NPC birth certificate”. Hamman’adama added
