The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Kaigama, has spoken about the election in 2023, saying Presidency should be open to all Nigerians irrespective of their tribe, culture or religion.

According to him, there is no particular religion or ethnic group has a monopoly of the leadership of Nigeria, therefor, everyone should be included in the Presidency race.

He said this while responding to the principle of rotation and agitation for the zoning of the Presidency to the South-East in 2023.

The Bishop said, “It should be possible that all zones have a chance, and if there are five or six geopolitical zones, and we have people to get a sense of belonging, we should get the best from these different groups, rather than saying it will just rotate between one ethnic or religious group.

“It [Presidency] should be open to all Nigerians. The South-East belongs to this country, the North-East belongs to this country. Why should anybody be excluded from the Presidency? I don’t see any reason for that.

“So, if there are fairness and justice, I think it [Presidency] should be open to all Nigerians who are eligible, whether they are from the North or the South, whether they are Christians or Muslims, whether they are young or old.”
